The Challenge
Hillside Church needed more than a website. The off-the-shelf plugins they'd looked at for event registration were either too expensive, too complicated, or didn't quite fit how a church actually runs an event — kids' programs with multiple registration types, walk-ins on Sunday morning, capacity caps, volunteer check-in flows. They wanted a clean, modern WordPress site, but they also wanted the events page on it to actually work the way their team works.
Our Approach
We built the site on WordPress so the staff could manage content the way they already knew how — and then built them their own custom plugin (Church Event Manager) to handle the event side of things. The plugin lives inside their WordPress dashboard and gives them everything they need to run an event end-to-end: registration with custom fields and multiple ticket types, automated confirmation and reminder emails, waitlists, a tablet-friendly check-in screen with walk-in support, capacity alerts at 80% and 100%, and a registrations dashboard with filtering and CSV export. Behind the scenes there's an error-reporting system so if anything ever breaks on their site, we see it before they do.
