Why You Should Market Your Church

In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, the essence of community and spirituality is often drowned out by the cacophony of daily life. Amidst this, churches serve as sanctuaries of solace, offering a sense of belonging and spiritual enrichment. However, nobody can be a part of this solace if they do not know it is even an option. In order to extend its reach and impact, it’s crucial for churches to embrace marketing. By the end of this blog my hope is that you will see the importance of marketing your church.

Marketing your church isn’t about commercialization, but about reaching out to individuals who are in search of spiritual guidance.

Utilizing various marketing strategies such as social media, local advertising, and community events can help in creating awareness about your church’s presence and its mission. Furthermore, marketing does not have to be expensive. Google will even give you 10,000 dollars a month for free marketing on their search engine platform. Isn’t that crazy? With just a little setup you can start spreading the message of Jesus Christ to people who have never heard it before through digital marketing. Now, I could talk for MONTHS about how effective Google Ads has been for my church, and so many of my clients, but I will let this data speak for itself.

One of the misconceptions of marketing is that it is only for business, and if God wants the church to grow, then He will provide the growth. Now, that is true. God grows, but He also gave us wisdom to use. If people are not coming to your church i would argue it isn’t because your church is not good, but it is because they do not know about it. One of the biggest wins in marketing is informing people.

Another huge reason to market your church is because it grows your church. I’m not saying that this is a formulaic equation to church growth because anyone who has been in ministry for half a month could tell you that that does not exist. What I am saying is that by making people aware of your church they are going to be inclined to learn more about it. Which is why another HUGE part of marketing online is a solid website.

Too many churches just use any quick template they can cobble together. Starting out, I think this is perfectly fine, but there quickly comes a time where your website is no longer reflecting the church you are, or the church you want to be. I have seen so many vibrant churches with growing communities have the worst website that will make you think their church died in 1997. Your website is often the first thing people will see when inquiring about your church.

Logistically, your website is the anchor of your entire marketing efforts. Event signups should go to your website. Digital marketing should point to your website. Your website is the key to marketing effectively in 2023.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself “I don’t want to compete with all of the other churches out there because it isn’t worth it!” And you know what? I hear you. But the absolute best part about leading a church is that you never have to compete. You are all a part of the same goal: to reach the lost with the message of Jesus Christ. When you market you aren’t ever saying “Don’t go to Glad Tidings, come to First Assembly! We have better coffee and worship!” That is never the heart of church marketing.

Good church marketing showcases what makes your church unique, and upholds your church’s vision and mission.

A well-marketed church can offer a network of support, both spiritually and emotionally, to individuals in need. By extending its reach, your church can be a sanctuary for many more. Marketing is a powerful tool that can significantly enhance the reach and impact of your church. By adopting some effective marketing strategies your church can begin to grow. Online and in person.
